Impact and doctoral students, a doctroral course offered by the Grupo 9 Universidades in collaboration with Euskampus

Euskampus Fundazioa in collaboration with Grupo 9 Universidades (G-9) offers a doctoral course entitled “How to Direct Your Research Towards Societal Impact”

From April 7 to April 14, 2025, Igor Campillo, director of Euskampus Fundazioa, Glória Nunes Rodrigues, Responsible for Internationalization at Euskampus and Iñigo Puertas, Impact Manager at the same foundation, delivered a specialized training course aimed at doctoral students within the framework of the G-9 training offer that complements the training plans of doctoral students from the different participating universities. The goal is to offer doctoral students quality online training that contributes to the continuous improvement of teaching and learning outcomes for our students. G-9 is a non-profit association that brings together nine public universities, being each the sole public university in its respective Autonomous Community, fostering collaboration and excellence in higher education and research.

Recognizing the pivotal stage PhD students face in shaping their academic and professional futures, the course addressed the growing recognition for that research should to extend its influence beyond academic settings. The course highlighted the importance of research contributing to society, economy, environment , etc. Emphasizing societal impact was presented not only as an ethical responsibility but also as a strategic opportunity: it strengthens the relevance of research, expands career possibilities, and contributes to solving some of the world's most pressing challenges.

Throughout the course, participants engaged in sessions designed to build knowledge, competencies, and skills for incorporating societal impact into their research activities. Key topics included understanding the evolving role of researchers and learning practical tools.
